UNC Wilmington vs. Hofstra Betting Preview
UNC Wilmington
The Seahawks have had a great season but need to change things around drastically after losing by 24 points in the previous meeting. Granted, that game was on the road and was seemingly an anomaly as the previous four meetings have been decided by one possession or loss, which is important when considering the NCAA college basketball odds for this game.
UNC Wilmington ranked 258th offensively in scoring 68.8 points per game. The Seahawks were 214th in converting 44.2% of field goal attempts and 210th in making 33.8% of their 3-point shots. They were 135th in making 72.8% of their free throw attempts and ranked 273rd in grabbing 30.2 rebounds per game.
Defensively, the Seahawks were 36th in allowing 64.0 points per game. They were 127th in allowing teams to make 43.0% of field goal attempts and clamped down on the perimeter to rank 23rd while holding teams to 30.4% on 3-point shots. They were 98th in limiting opponents to 29.7 rebounds per game.
Size and Balance in the Seahawks’ Roster
The Seahawks do not have a player taller than 6-foot-9 but have plenty of size with some wings that are 6-7. One of those wings – Trazarien White – led the team throughout the regular season while averaging 13.9 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. But it was a balanced approach, with six players averaging at least 7.2 points per game. Guards Maleeck-Harden Hayes (37.9%) and Donovan Newby (37.6%) are the top 3-point shooters in that group.
But it was the 6-7 guard Nick Farrar who scored 19 points in 17 minutes in the CAA quarterfinals after he averaged 5.3 per game during the regular season. That launched the Seahawks into the semifinals after a 73-68 victory over Drexel.
UNC Wilmington is 15-13-2 against the spread and 14-15-1 on over/under this season. They were 8-6 in true road games and 4-0 on a neutral court. They entered Monday 4-6-1 against the spread as underdogs, including 1-1 when underdogs of 7.5 to 9.5 points.
Hofstra
It really is two teams who mirror each other in a lot of ways, but Hofstra excels on the offensive end compared to their counterparts on Monday. The Pride rate is much better because they are so efficient on that end.
The Pride rank 120th in scoring 74.2 points per game and are top 80 nationally in efficiency. They convert 48.0% of field goal attempts, which is 26th, and 36.1% of 3-point shots, which is 76th. At the free throw line, Hofstra makes 73.6% of attempts, which is 112th. They only rebound 31.1 times per game, which is 227th.
Defensively, Hofstra is 58th in holding teams to 65.6 points per game. The Pride are 21st at limiting opponents to 40.2% on field goal attempts and 29th in holding teams to 30.7% on 3-point shots. They are 332nd, though, in allowing teams to grab 33.9 rebounds per game.
The Three Musketeers of Hofstra
Great teams in college basketball have great guard play, and the Pride are no exception. Aaron Estrada is averaging 20.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. Tyler Thomas is averaging 16.2 points per game while making 40.8% of his 3-point attempts. Darlinstone Dubar is scoring 10.2 points per game while making 39.1% of his 3-point shots, and adding 4.9 rebounds per game.
The Pride are a team that pride themselves on great 3-point shooting and an efficient offense at moving the ball. Oh, and that is not to leave out a player who embodies that in Jaquan Carlos, who is averaging 6.0 points, 4.9 assists, and 3.7 rebounds per game.
Hofstra is 21-10 against the spread and 16-15 on over/unders this season. The Pride were 10-5 in true road games and 3-2 on a neutral court. They were 16-4 against the spread as favorites, including 2-1 when favored by 7.5 to 9.5 points.
UNC Wilmington vs. Hofstra Betting Picks
There are no injuries to worry about when these two teams meet. Those who have made their bets public show 66% of bets are on Hofstra to cover the spread, and 65% of bets are on the over. The Pride covered this season’s game, but UNC Wilmington had covered against the spread in the previous two. The under has also hit in the last two games.
This seems like a game that could potentially get out of hand because of how dynamic an offense Hofstra has and all the weapons it has. We like them to cover the UNC Wilmington vs Hofstra odds and win by more than 7.5 points.
Though we suspect it will be a closer game this time around and that the over 135 points also converts.
