Queensland’s Origin II preparations have suffered a massive blow with Cowboys star and game one hero Reuben Cotter limping off in the warm-up with a hamstring injury.
Cotter pulled up lame in the warm-up ahead of the Cowboys’ clash with the Sea Eagles with the lock forward reportedly out for three to five weeks with a hamstring tear.

After the match, Todd Payten said: “He felt it go in the warm-up. He’ll go for a scan tonight. I think he’s bummed about obviously what’s happened this week and the missed opportunity for him… I’m disappointed for the kid, he’s worked so hard. He’s doing a terrific job not just for us but for Queensland.”
Payten added he is extremely likely to miss Origin, saying: “I assume so. It’s going to be a fair stretch to get going in 10 days. For a kid his size, he’s got to rely on speed and power and it’s going to really hurt him with the hamstring.”
“Reuben Cotter is with the Cowboys medical staff and looks to be limping with that right leg already heavily taped,” Michael Ennis said on Fox League at the time of the incident.
“They look concerned the Cowboys’ medical staff.
“He is going to be ruled out here.”
“That is big news for the Cowboys,” Benji Marshall said.
“Big news for Queensland,” Ennis added.
“Todd Payten looks extremely concerned. They are in deep discussions about how they can change this.
“Huge concerns because Reuben Cotter is so important for not only the Cowboys, but this has ramifications for the Queensland side.”

Ennis said there was no chance Cotter could play for Queensland next Sunday even if it was a minor strain.
“That just grabbed on him as he went through the bump pads,” Ennis said.
“He went to decelerate and that is often when hamstrings grab.

“With hamstrings I don’t think he will be playing. It is a massive blow for Queensland.”
Gorden Tallis and Marshall said the injury combined with the travel to Perth would make it impossible for Cotter to have played in Origin II.
“Even a minor hamstring strain he ain’t playing,” Tallis said.
“You also have to weigh up the travel to Perth, so you would almost say he is next to no chance,” Marshall said.
