SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Reese Davidson’s score 15 minutes into the first half stood as the lone goal in a 1-0 Westmont (Calif.) win over the Southern Oregon women’s soccer team Wednesday afternoon at Lovik Field.
Davidson’s 12-yard, unassisted shot from the right side was the only one of the 18th-ranked Warriors’ 21 attempts to get past Raiders keeper Jessie Selby. The senior, who corralled 13 saves in Saturday’s scoreless draw at The Master’s (Calif.), picked up 10 more in the final game of the road trip.
The Raiders finished it 1-1-1 and will be off until returning to California to face NCAA Division II opponent Stanislaus State (Calif.) on Sept. 10.
Against Westmont, they struggled to generate an attack. Their first shot wasn’t recorded until three minutes into the second half, and they didn’t get one on target until Sophia Connell nearly tied the score on a long strike with less than five minutes to play.
Westmont keeper Kailey Meyer made a leaping grab of Connell’s try and was credited with the shutout.
