Northumbrian Water admits health and safety breach
Northumbrian Water has admitted health and safety breaches after a worker suffered an open fracture to his leg.
The victim was employed by the company and JW Colpitts & Co at Kielder Reservoir, in Northumberland, when an accident happened in June 2018.
A court heard that the employee and others had been tasked with connecting a large water pipe in the submersible discharge valve chamber 1 at the beauty spot.
However, the pipe swung across the chamber and struck the victim, causing his left leg to break and the bone to come through the skin.
An investigation was subsequently launched by the Health and Safety Executive and they identified that the two companies were responsible for a number of safety shortfalls.
