After not being able to compete last fall due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Lock Haven’s football team is eager to get things started as LHU opens against Lincoln at Coatesville High School today at 1 p.m.
Lock Haven went 2-9 in 2019 and opened the year with a win against Lincoln, 57-13.
This is the first season under coach John Kelling. He was hired in January of 2020 and is a veteran college coach with a strong defensive background, having coached nearly 30 years at the Division I, II and III levels.
The road opener is one of six scheduled road contests for Lock Haven this year, which includes a three-game road trip to start the year. Lock Haven travels to California (Pa.) and Slippery Rock in Weeks 2 and 3, respectively.
The Bald Eagles’ captains this year are Shane Scott, Kahari Kirkland-Whitfield, Monte Jones, Justin White and Ethan Persa.
Persa led Lock Haven at quarterback in 2019, as he threw for 330 yards in five games and had four touchdown passes. He’s played in 15 career games. Running back Dante Graham is back and had back-to-back 100-yard plus games late in the 2019 season.
Lock Haven was selected to finish eighth in the Eastern Division in the PSAC.
