KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- Rohit Sharma is the leading run getter in the history of T20I matches.
- The Indian skipper has been struggling to post big totals on a consistent basis for quite some time now.
- Former English spinner Swann has backed him to do well in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Batting has always been India’s strength, and for them to fare well in the upcoming ICC event, a lot will depend on how their batters perform. In last year’s tournament, Indian batters failed to deliver in the first two matches against Pakistan and New Zealand, and the team had to pay the price for it by crashing out of the league stage. But this time a better show is expected from them.

Rohit is the leading run getter in the history of T20I matches and, apart from that, has also scored the highest number of four centuries in the shortest format of the game. He has been struggling to score big runs consistently for quite some time now. But Swann feels Rohit’s form shouldn’t be a concern for the Indian team. He, in fact, believes that the batter will turn things around at the tournament by contributing significantly with the bat.
“It’s just form. When you play cricket, this gets thrown around a lot, the captaincy pressure and everything. People used to talk about Virat at RCB. As a batsman, you are not thinking about captaincy when you go out and bat, you go out with a clear mind and focus on the ball,” Swann told Sports 18.
“Rohit is definitely the player who will get a hundred in the T20 World Cup. I have absolutely no doubt about it. I have no worries about Rohit Sharma. He is the right man to lead, and he has not been in his best form, but India are consistently posting big scores.”
Rohit failed to open his account in the first T20I against South Africa on Wednesday (September 28) but will hope to come up with a good show in the remaining two matches.
