Some people spend millions of dollars on real estate in New York. However, some may want to spend the money on Arkansas caves, wineries, hidden wooden houses, and more. The new series, starring celebrity middleman Luis Ortiz, aims to showcase their unique traits and stimulate a bit of wandering in the process.
In an interview with Amir Korangy, the founder and publisher of The Real Deal, Ortiz (formerly an agent for Douglas Elliman and one of the original cast members of “Million Dollar Listing New York”) was on the Netflix series. “The World’s Greatest Vacation Rental.”
The premise is simple: with 3 million vacation rentals available worldwide, Ortiz and his two co-hosts are the most luxurious (his specialty) and more budget-focused, simply weird. To visit The host “tests” the property for sale as an experience as well as an asset.
The journey from Ortiz’s real estate to Netflix’s co-host wasn’t entirely straightforward. “My dream wasn’t to be a real estate agent,” he said. After shooting a shot in the film industry at the age of 19, he decided it was time to explore something else. By the way, he “had a friend of a middleman” who brought Ortiz into the real estate industry.
He spent time at Douglas Elliman and became independent after spending several seasons at “Million Dollar Listing New York” with Fredrik Eklund and Ryan Serhant. This move kept him away from sharp suits and radical deals and pulled him into a new series.
But curiosity drives new shows, not contracts. Ortiz said in one episode that real estate wasn’t actually sold at all, but it’s important to think about real estate and travel differently. “You don’t have to sell it,” he says. “I have no choice but to understand”
“The’Million Dollar Listings’ didn’t show me good or bad as a businessman,” he said. “I was just there as a curious person.
