DENVER – The University of Denver hockey team remains as the No. 1 team in the nation in both the DCU/USCHO.com poll and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll after the latest rankings were released on Monday.
The Pioneers have held the top spot through each of the ranking this season following their record-tying ninth national championship to close out the 2021-22 campaign.
Denver (2-0-0) won the 2022 Ice Breaker Tournament to begin the 2022-23 regular season, defeating then-No. 11/9 Notre Dame 5-2 on Friday before picking up a 3-1 win against Maine on Saturday. The Pios will play another ranked opponent this weekend as they travel to Amherst, Massachusetts, to take on the No. 13/14 UMass Minutemen for a two-game set.
The Pioneers received 46-of-50 first-place votes in the DCU/USCHO.com poll and 33-of-34 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine rankings.
Overall, five NCHC squads were ranked, including three in the top five with North Dakota and Minnesota Duluth (4/4) joining Denver. St. Cloud State (10/10) and Western Michigan (18/18) also all earned spots in both polls, while Colorado College and Omaha received votes in each ranking as well.
About the DCU/USCHO.com Poll: The rankings are compiled weekly and consists of 50 voters, including coaches and media professionals from across the country
About the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll: The rankings are conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the six NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the AHCA and USA Hockey.
UP NEXT: Denver takes on UMass on Friday at 5 p.m. MT and on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. MT. Both games will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
