Last weekend in Richmond, Kyle Larson finally got his first win of the season and his 14th race with Hendricks and 20th career overall, ahead of Chase Elliott’s replacement Josh Berry in second and Trackhouse Racing-Chevrolet’s Ross Chastain in third.
Larson is at the head of the pack, while Hendrick Motorsports teammate Alex Bowman is on top of the NASCAR standings as the NASCAR Cup Series takes on an entirely different challenge than the sweeping esses of Circuit of the Americas or the short track at Richmond: the dirt track at Bristol.
We’ll review recent results and past dirt track success for the first dirt track race on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule in our Food City Dirt Betting Analysis.

Recent Results
While NASCAR has a long history at Bristol Motorspeedway, the likes of Richard Childress Racing-Chevrolet’s Kyle Busch (2007, 2009, 2011, 2018, 2019) and RFK Racing Ford’s Brad Keselowski (2012, 2020) as current Cup Series regulars who have won at Bristol on a concrete surface.
However, the Bristol Motor Speedway changed surfaces in 2021, bringing dirt racing to the NASCAR schedule. Since moving to a dirt surface, there have been two races with two winners from two different manufacturers.
Team Penske-Ford’s Joey Logano won the inaugural dirt race at Bristol in 2021.
Apparently, surfaces at Bristol don’t matter to Kyle Busch, who won his sixth Cup Series race at Bristol in 2022, tying Rusty Wallace for the most wins at Bristol when you combine his results on the different surfaces.
Ready, Set, Go! Food City Dirt Race Prediction
Kyle Larson
Kyle Larson is coming off his first win and third top-five finish this season. Larson has one win and two top-five finishes in two races at Bristol since February 2020. However, since moving to dirt, Larson has an average finishing place of 16.5 and one top-ten finish.
Joey Logano
This might be a weekend for Joey Logano to get his second win for the season and third top-five finish of the season. On dirt tracks since February 2020, Logano has one race win and two top fives in two races on the dirt, with an average finishing position of 2.0.
Christopher Bell
Christopher Bell continued to impress us with his season so far, getting his fourth top-five finish of the season in Richmond. While Bell is currently third in the NASCAR Cup Series Drivers’ Championship standings, this might be a weekend to fade Bell as his average finishing position on dirt is 20.5, and he has only scored one top-10 finish on dirt.
Tyler Reddick
Tyler Reddick shone in the Lonestar state, but his run of three straight top-five finishes ended at Richmond. Reddick is definitely in play this weekend based on past success on dirt. Reddick has an average finishing position of 4.5, one top five, and two top-ten finishes on dirt.
Ryan Blaney
Ryan Blaney has a top-five and two top-ten finishes on the dirt.
Who Will Win the Food City Dirt Race?
- To conclude our Food City Dirt betting analysis, our pick to win on NASCAR’s first dirt surface race is Team Penske’s Joey Logano.
