Gas prices are slowly starting to decrease. Because prices are currently still high, many consumers are asking, “Is it cheaper to fly or drive?”Watch the full report above.Tracy Edwards, a manager at the American Automobile Association, said that traveling by car instead of purchasing airline tickets can cut families’ travel expenses. Driving can be more cost-efficient than flying because families can save money that would otherwise be spent on a car rental after their flight lands. “That could jack it up to $600 or up to even $1,000 more in savings,” Edwards said. The downside is that driving equates to longer travel times that may conflict with allotted vacation time.”You’re cutting into your vacation time. Not everyone has long vacation time. They might only have five days,” Edwards said. Though, according to Edwards, high gas prices don’t seem to be stopping anyone from going on vacation.”I think we’ve just accepted everything is a premium this year — whether it’s prices at restaurants, gas and travel and the hassle of flying,” Alecks Leszczyski says. Some families are willing to adjust their budget to make a summer vacation possible.”You know, you’ve got to enjoy life. We’ve been cooped up for two years plus, so yeah, just trying to get out and enjoy this beautiful summer,” Leszczyski said. PITTSBURGH —

Gas prices are slowly starting to decrease.

Because prices are currently still high, many consumers are asking, “Is it cheaper to fly or drive?”

Tracy Edwards, a manager at the American Automobile Association, said that traveling by car instead of purchasing airline tickets can cut families’ travel expenses.

Driving can be more cost-efficient than flying because families can save money that would otherwise be spent on a car rental after their flight lands.

“That could jack it up to $600 or up to even $1,000 more in savings,” Edwards said.

The downside is that driving equates to longer travel times that may conflict with allotted vacation time.

“You’re cutting into your vacation time. Not everyone has long vacation time. They might only have five days,” Edwards said.

Though, according to Edwards, high gas prices don’t seem to be stopping anyone from going on vacation.

“I think we’ve just accepted everything is a premium this year — whether it’s prices at restaurants, gas and travel and the hassle of flying,” Alecks Leszczyski says.

Some families are willing to adjust their budget to make a summer vacation possible.

“You know, you’ve got to enjoy life. We’ve been cooped up for two years plus, so yeah, just trying to get out and enjoy this beautiful summer,” Leszczyski said.

In addition to AAA’s website, the following websites can help save time and money by calculating travel costs — befrugal.com, gasbuddy.com and fueleconomy.gov.
