Solo travel is becoming more common, and St Lucia may be a paradise for a solo traveller looking for a memorable tropical experience. Saint Lucia is not only an island with unique adventures, but it is also one of the Caribbean islands known for its rich culture, heritage, climate, and outstanding nightlife experiences. Exploring a new destination alone can be intimidating, but if you follow these few tips, we promise that you will have a safe and fun vacation.

  1. Do not venture into unknown territory alone

St. Lucia offers a lot to see and do, so hire a guide if you want to go sightseeing. It is not suggested to visit beaches by yourself, especially those located outside of the main tourist areas. Any place where you don’t see many locals, don’t go by yourself. It’s easy to forget that you need to be cautious when enjoying the nightlife, with all of the excitement and introduction of alcohol. If you’re returning to your resort after hours, take a taxi. Also, avoid unlit streets when it’s late at night. Try to find the busier areas where there are plenty of streetlights or shops and bars.Make sure your belongings are always visible and avoid flashing expensive objects or huge sums of money in public.

  1. Know the road rules of St. Lucia if you are looking to rent a vehicle

Renting a car is an excellent option for getting a hands-on experience with the island. Driving in St. Lucia may be challenging for Americans because cars drive on the left side of the road. Those from the United Kingdom, on the other hand, have a substantial advantage. As a former British colony, a few British rules continue to apply. If you do not have an international driver’s license, you must obtain a temporary driving permit, which the rental company will usually help you with. Furthermore, the roads are a little bumpy, so renting an SUV is your best option, and if you’re not a great driver, avoid driving on the west coast as the road is extremely winding and twisted.

  1. Have some currency or money withdrawn

The local currency in St Lucia is the Eastern Caribbean dollar, but the US dollar is also accepted. If you make purchases in US dollars, your change will be in EC dollars. Most establishments accept credit cards, but if you want to go shopping at the local craft market, bring cash. If you need to withdraw money, you can use the accessible cash machines or go to the nearest bank to exchange money.

  1. Be friendly

Being sociable is the best method to get about in Saint Lucia. If you require more information than what is provided on the local map of the island, you are more likely to receive good feedback from islanders. Locals in Saint Lucia treat guests the same way they would treat their own family, so you will always be welcomed and well cared for. Interacting with locals and wandering the history-filled streets will give you the inside scoop on Saint Lucia, which you might miss if you were travelling in a group.

  1. Enjoy everything the island has to offer

You’re on vacation, so take advantage of everything St. Lucia has to offer. Make every vacation day count. The island features fantastic food, a plethora of activities and tourist options, lovely weather, and a wealth of history to absorb. Take it all in and make the most of your tropical holiday.
